Barrows, Marietta Griffin, 1844 - 1916, wife of Ezra, Dau. of Major Griffin, Sr.
& Alvina Fleak; was a descendant of Benjamin Griffin, a soldier of the American
Revolution. Outstanding in her fidelity, devotion & self-denial for the welfare
of her home and all those who were dear to her, possessing a sublime faith in
the divinity of justice, liberty & morality, she had a conviction that right is
mighty & will prevail. Footnote: Ezra Barrows was one of the individuals that
tried to get the turkey as the symbol for the United States instead of the Bald
Eagle.

Barrows, Ezra Doan, 1835 - 1924, A soldier in Co. K, 39th Reg. OVI, 1861 - 1865,
Flatboatman, husbandman, conservationist; was son of Orange Barrows & Harriet
Doan, grandson of George Barrows, Sr. & Eunice Culver. A descendant of A. Culver
who came to America on the Mayflower. George Sr., was the first one of the

Wild Turkey. The wild turkey is peculiar to America, supreme in the class of
game birds and a symbol of the environments and association of our pioneer
ancestors, who subdued the wilderness. It is progenitor of the domestic turkey,
s super product of poultry breeding today, and emblematic of all American
institutions.
