My info on the Thomas Ayer I know about is that he was born in Scotland in about 1723 and moved to Ireland and from there settled in Virgina. In about 1758 moved to Marlboro District of South Carolina. Captain of SC militia, I think, and, allegedly, Lord Rawdon put a price of 50 gold pieces on his head during the war. Married Sarah Francis Malone in Ireland and had 3 children - Hartwell, Elizabeth, and Lewis Malone Ayer. Died about 1781 and was buried at his home in SC.
